My name is April Leaman (she/her) . I am a native Lancastrian. I earned my Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Millersville University in 2009. I have worked in the mental health and counseling fields since 2003. I employ a holistic approach to therapy with a strengths-based focus. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Internal Family Systems with a trauma-informed lens. I show each client unconditional positive regard and enjoy weaving my sense of humor and authenticity into our working dynamic together. I specialize in holding space for my clients to express and process their current struggles and frustrations in a judgment-free capacity. I am passionate about meeting clients where they are in life and helping them reach their goals. I believe deeply in the value of a trusting relationship and confidential in-session process to elicit the change you want for yourself. My areas of focus include anxiety and depression, relational abuse and family system dynamics, and divorce and separation. I am so glad you’re here!
My past work experiences cover many different treatment modalities and includes time in the following settings: school-based counseling providing wraparound services to children and their families, a graduate practicum at Lancaster Regional Medical Center in the psychiatric inpatient unit, a community-based mental health group home clinical supervisor for Keystone Human Services, Certified Sexual Assault hotline counselor through the YWCA of Lancaster, Women and Children’s Shelter Director for individuals experiencing homelessness, Mental Health Support Group Clinical Supervisor through Mental Health America of Lancaster County, and Graduate Assistant to the Center for Counseling and Human Development at Millersville University.
