APRIL LEAMAN LAPC, MS
Licensed Associate Professional Counselor
Hi, I’m April Leaman (she/her) — a native Lancastrian with a passion for helping people navigate life’s challenges through connection, trust, and authenticity. I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Millersville University in 2009 and have worked in the mental health and counseling fields since 2003.

My approach to therapy is holistic and eclectic, rooted in a strengths-based foundation. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Internal Family Systems through a trauma-informed lens, and I deeply value building a trusting therapeutic relationship. I specialize in supporting clients with anxiety, depression, complex relationship dynamics, divorce and separation, and family systems work. I also provide couples therapy and have extensive experience holding space for those recovering from relational abuse.

I strive to meet every client where they are — offering a judgment-free space to process, reflect, and grow. I show up with unconditional positive regard, a sense of humor, and genuine authenticity in the room, so you feel seen and supported as we work toward your goals together.

My career has included a wide range of roles and settings:
-
School-based wraparound counseling
-
Inpatient psychiatric practicum at Lancaster Regional Medical Center
-
Clinical supervisor in a community-based group home
-
Sexual assault hotline counselor through the YWCA
-
Women and Children’s Shelter Director
-
Clinical supervisor for a mental health support group with Mental Health America
-
Graduate Assistant at Millersville’s Center for Counseling and Human Development

I have completed extensive post-graduate training in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, suicide prevention, cultural competency, leadership development, relational de-escalation, and systems-level approaches to healing and recovery. I am proud to be a Risking Connections Certified Trauma-Informed Care Trainer, a member in good standing with the American Counseling Association, and committed to lifelong learning in service of my clients.

Therapy is a brave step — and finding the right therapist is a process. If you think we might be a good fit, I invite you to reach out for a complimentary 15-minute consultation. I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
