Master's Level Intern-Social Work
Elijah (he/him) is a graduate social work intern at As You Are Counseling Services who is passionate about helping children and adolescents navigate life's challenges, recognize their strengths, and build a future that feels possible.
Elijah holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Social Work, which he expects to complete in May 2027. He currently works at River Rock Academy, where he supports at-risk youth navigating significant behavioral, social, and environmental challenges. His experience has shaped his understanding of the many factors that influence a young person's behavior, relationships, and emotional well-being.
Elijah is particularly interested in working with children and teens who may have struggled to find the right support. Whether a young person is navigating behavioral challenges, difficulty managing emotions, complicated life circumstances, or challenges building trusting relationships, Elijah believes there is always more to a person than what others see on the surface. He is committed to understanding each young person's unique experiences and helping them discover their strengths, develop healthier coping skills, and build confidence in themselves.
His approach is grounded in genuine connection, collaboration, and respect. Elijah strives to create a space where young people feel heard rather than judged, supported rather than defined by their challenges, and encouraged to grow at their own pace. He believes that a strong therapeutic relationship can help young people begin to see themselves differently and recognize that their current circumstances do not have to define their future.
In addition to his work with at-risk youth, Elijah has experience in mental performance, supporting athletes as they navigate competition, confidence, performance expectations, and the demands of balancing athletics with other areas of life. As a former student-athlete at the University of Oklahoma, he brings personal insight into the unique pressures young athletes can experience.
Elijah welcomes the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and families seeking a supportive, authentic approach to therapy. As a graduate social work intern, he provides services within his scope of training and under appropriate clinical supervision.
Services with Elijah are offered on a self-pay basis, as he is not currently participating with insurance plans. Affordable rates and sliding-scale options are available to help make therapy more accessible.
Elijah believes every young person deserves to feel understood, valued, and capable of growth, no matter what their journey has looked like so far.
